The Superintendent, following recommendations from the Andover School Committee’s Calendar Sub-Committee, has put together proposed calendars, two each for the 2015/16 and 2016/17 school years. You can find the draft calendar options included with the published agenda for the Thursday, November 6th school committee meeting.
As a summary, these calendar options include:
– School start dates for students of: Wednesday, September 2nd or Thursday, September 10th in 2015, and Tuesday, September 6th or Thursday, September 8th in 2016. (Note beginning before Labor Day is subject to negotiation with the AEA. Also, a Sept 10, 2015 start date would not allow for 5 snow days that school year.)
– Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Christmas Eve, and Good Friday continue to be non school days.
– Vacation from March 13 – 17, 2017 rather than the typical February & April week-long vacations (maintained for 2015/16).
These proposed calendars for the 2015/16 and 2016/17 school years will be presented by the Superintendent at the school committee meeting on Thursday, November 6th at 7pm. All are encouraged to attend the meeting at 36R Bartlet Street, 3rd floor (above the senior center). If you cannot be there live, you can watch the meeting streamed live online.
A public comment period for feedback to the school committee on the proposed calendars will run from November 6th to December 1st. Comments may be sent to the Calendar Subcommittee by emailing: schoolcalendar@aps1.net. The School Committee plans to take a vote on the new calendars at their December 4th meeting.
